@entangledvoyager: Physics demo showing how standing waves can be set up on a string that is vibrating from one side where the other side of the string is tied down. Once we know the fundamental frequency, we can see additional harmonics if we go up in multiples of that fundamental frequency. This in a really important idea particularly for music whether you are talking about a stringed instrument like a guitar or aerophones like a flute. #physics #scienceexperiments #harmonics #standingwaves #STEMTok

DoctorDoomsday :
So standing waves are like seemingly still patterns born from constant frequency at certain amplitudes? The illusion of stillness born from constant motion?

i always have had questions regarding standing wave. what if i set to 30Hz with two peaks and null between them. in ideal case null is not moving at all. so how vibrations transfered in this point? what if i would fix it?

So if you just keep going, at some crazy high frequency it will look like just a straight line?

Seeing this after studying stationary waves from notes( high school textbook) is crazy, from what I understood these stationary waves are not “real” like they are formed from another “type” of wave a progressive wave that travel through the string but as the frequency increases( ie the fundamental frequency) these progressive waves get superimposed thereby creating a wave whose wave profile is not seen to travel thru the string but rather is stationary
