Love how you’re like “yay freedom” but look like you are still feeling awkward about it 😅 I would be exactly the same!

Does not being recognized legally in China create any issues for you two?

I travelled to China two months ago, and it’s fascinating to see that restaurants didn’t forbid you to bring outside food

In China, restaurants prohibiting customers from bringing their own alcohol or food is illegal. According to the Consumer Rights Protection Law, this regulation is considered an 'overlord clause,' which excludes consumers' rights to autonomous choice and fair trade, and is therefore invalid.

It's mainly due to food standards and health and safety. Once you're at a restaurant's property, they're liable for what is consumed there i.e. if you bring in food and get people sick, they will be liable for it, even if it's not cooked by them.

It is tolerable to not tip (us), not order a drink (eu), and bring ur own food, bubble tea and even booze in a chinese restaurant. China is a free country, and some have got to do better!

My local pub is fine if I bring in food (they serve food as well) just so long as I’m buying drinks to go with it from them. I’ve even ordered dominos to there before 😂

I mean I do this in the uk all the time and no where has seemed to care yet. Every time my mum and her friend go to one chain for coffee, I get coffee from my fave place and take it there, staff asked me about it and I said “yeah coz your coffee is shit ” and they were like valid 😂
