@coltenbarnaby: Let’s talk about the difference between faith and belief and how you cannot force either of them. When I lost my faith it was gone, I couldn’t find it even when I wanted to. And trust me, I wanted to. #deconstruction #exvangelical #christiantiktok
I always say you dont choose atheism. Its more of a realization.

Low key I was in a similar spot to you a few months back. After a few pretty undeniable events/epxiercenes in my life that confirmed the existence of God to me, or at the very least, christ, I got super into researching other religions and even though I'm a orthdox christian now, things like sufism which I would have never have thought about now ring truer to me than evangelical Christanity. Wherever you end up landing in life, best of luck.

People really think having faith is just a choice u make like u are choosing to eat apples or something. Once u see thru all the theatrics in religion, u can’t unsee it. That is why most times they caution people not to even try to question or study about the religion.

Lost my faith and then belief as well. Can’t say I don’t believe in “god” but more like I don’t know where or what god it.

It's funny how seeing most of your videos helps me knowing more about God and increase my faith. It's something I can't find in churches nowadays.

I saw your CS Lewis video when I was feeling hopeless about how I could ever rescue my faith and you helped me be at peace with letting go. Thank you :)

I was listening to Alex O'Connor's podcast where he was interviewing a former atheist who said she now chooses to believe and I racked my brain trying to figure out how one does that. Because I just can't.

I don’t believe stories. But I believe in stories. If that makes sense.

How did your family respond to your gradual loss of faith?

I feel like "believing" and "having faith" cannot co exist. you can either believe (completely assuming that you are correct) in God, or have faith (knowing you might be incorrect, but chosing to live you life with the uncertainty of your choices) that God exists

I’ve been hearing people talk about faith and a relationship with god my whole life. I have never ever understood what they were talking about. It has seemed like pretend since I was a small child. I was 100% convinced everyone else was pretending. I really really tried to pretend too, but I couldn’t get past all the harm I saw my church causing others. No justice there.

I was slow. One day I realized that I hadn’t believed for a long time, I was just going through the motions like muscle memory.

This is facinating. I was raised agnostic/ athiest. I tried for a good 5 years trying to convert and believe. I could never manage to believe so this explains why I never had faith.

"Long before I stopped believing in God I lost my faith in God" hits SO hard because that is truly how it happened for me as well. I know exactly what you mean

I’m convinced that some people just aren’t wired to accept things on belief or faith. They require some sort of verifiable evidence before accepting things. There needs to be some kind of underlying reason and rationality.

I'm someone who feels like they also just woke up one day and lost faith after years into college of feeling "on fire for Jesus" we'll say lol. It's helpful to hear you put into words my grief and also my new hope/agnostic embrace of not knowing a certain Truth about the universe but knowing what I care about - caring about connecting to people, love for others, seeking justice.

I feel this. I’m in the trenches and I’m afraid of letting God/Jesus be reduced to “just” a philosophy after my journey.

I did the same experiment and was successful. I now believe in the God of Baruch Spinoza or going back further, the God of the Ancient Greeks and Stoics. It is the Logos or existence itself that we are all forever part of and the only God which can be proven to exist.

That is so interesting because my journey was the exact opposite. I lost my beliefs before my faith. My education was my catalyst, and my questions in my beliefs lead to the end of my faith.
