Staryu and the entire line have all been based off Ultraman. Thats where the concept for the design comes from. They just executed it poorly. As for Zygarde, from the leaked animations at least I’m pretty sure it’s a cannon and it’s referencing the ultimate weapon that AZ built in X and Y.

i would say many of new megas looks rather...not good. Back in the day megas were mainly cool. Nowadays megas almost all goofy. im not a fan
