She’s quoting Candace Owens because the song is about Blake Lively. Shes not actually talking about girl bossing

i feel like any woman with ambition was mocked with that term in the corporate world or work in general in male fields. not just women who deserve criticism like rihanna but any successful woman. it was about humbling them specially when they were more qualified.

Thank you for bringing this up! Also, I somehow now associate “girl boss” or “#bossbabe” with multi level marketing PYRAMID schemes😂 that’s how they lure people in. “Be your own boss!”

I agree! Girl Boss is inherently anti-intersectional feminism. Though an issue I’ve always had is that people relish in taking down women who do the same things that men do with a ferociousness that’s multiplied by her being a woman. Like both parties are participating in exploitative capitalism, so I don’t think either should be celebrated, but also the woman shouldn’t be the only one held accountable for harm.

it’s just crazy how many people not only don’t understand intersectionality but they don’t even know what it is!

Yes and even outside of the exploitative corporate environment, girl boss success often included pushing gendered/domestic labor onto poorer women (nanny, maids, surrogates, etc).

You nailed this! It’s a critique of the continued embrace and upholding of capitalism and patriarchy, in the name of “female empowerment”. This and choice feminism are setting us baaack

This is so exhausting. You could make the same critiques to a "boss" that happened to be a men, because unfortunately we live in a capitalist society. Women were just celebrating that on the rare occasion it happened to be a woman. Why do women need to dismantle the economic structure that has reign supreme for centuries to be feminist.

the weaponisation of feminism that taylor swift performed needs to be studied cause you cannot say a word about this woman without her stans saying "omg its actually romantic how obsessed you are with her".

Why we gotta be girls though? Girl boss, Black girl joy…when do we get to be women? Why do we avoid maturation in our language of things? Ain’t I a Woman?!

You put it perfectly. The girl boss was just white women trying to get the same status as white men. Never about women empowerment.
