معركة الشقيقة – ترهونة (18 يونيو 1914) تُعدّ أكبر معركة تكبّد فيها الاحتلال الإيطالي أكبر خسائره في ليبيا على الإطلاق، حيث قُتل فيها أكثر من 4000 جندي إيطالي في وادي الشقيقة القريب من الشرشارة، وهو رقم لم تُسجّله أي معركة أخرى في تاريخ الجهاد الليبي. اندلعت المعركة خلال حصار المجاهدين لقبائل ترهونة للحامية الإيطالية داخل المدينة، بقيادة المجاهد الساعدي بن سلطان الصالحي، وبمساهمة بطولية من المجاهد سويدان الحاتمي الذي خدع القوات الإيطالية وحدد للمجاهدين موقع مرور الحامية، ما قاد إلى إبادة معظم أفرادها داخل الوادي الضيق. انتهت المعركة بسقوط 4061 قتيلاً إيطالياً وأسر أكثر من 700 جندي وضابط، لتصبح معركة الشقيقة أكبر هزيمة عسكرية لإيطاليا في الداخل الليبي، ورمزًا بارزًا لشجاعة مقاومة ترهونة ودورها الكبير في استرداد المناطق المحتلة خلال سنوات الجهاد. The Battle of Al-Shaqeeka – Tarhuna (18 June 1914) The Battle of Al-Shaqeeka is considered the largest and deadliest defeat suffered by the Italian occupation forces in Libya, where more than 4,000 Italian soldiers were killed in a single engagement — a record unmatched by any other battle in the Libyan resistance. The battle erupted after the fighters of Tarhuna besieged the Italian garrison in the city under the leadership of Al-Saadi bin Sultan Al-Salhi, while the heroic role of Suweidan Al-Hatemi — who tricked the Italian commanders and revealed the route of their withdrawal — led the mujahideen to ambush the entire column inside the narrow Al-Shaqeeka valley.
