@healingwithemilyg: I loved this analogy when I first heard it so I thought I’d share it with yall. It’s also a great way to explain future faking! #narcissisticabuserecovery #narcissisticabuse #narcissisticrelationship #abuserecovery #emotionalabuse
he caused me pain constantly, and yet I only wanted him to comfort me.

And nobody realizes it could happen to anybody. I always considered myself pretty self aware and secure. Went almost 40 years without experiencing a narcissistic relationship and the few years I did nearly destroyed me, literally.

Yup, as much as I’m aware of the situation and how much it hurts, I’m literally addicted to her. Even though I know she will never change.

Trauma bonds condition you to abandon all logic in favour of dopamine highs and cortisol crashes. Intermittent reinforcement is so insidious. I am someone who studied psychology, helped other people feel empowered, yet it took me so long to leave

the people under his influence swear i’m the problem and can’t be that bad or abusive if i’m “always going back to him” and say i’m abusive too…like it makes me feel crazy that they don’t see the deception and manipulation that happens behind the scenes.

Yes! Great take on it with the trauma bond. We were ABSOLUTELY conditioned for this behavior.

Mine literally would not let me break up with him. I broke up with him at least 10 times over 6 months before it finally stuck. he'd come back then blame me for something, making it my fault, and my response would always be "If I'm this huge problem, then just let me go"

Never thought I’d be in the situation I’m in now. Can definitely happen to anyone, don’t go back after the first breakup is all I can say 🙃

Being with a narcissist is like being a marionette puppet, while the strings are on fire, but the show has to go on for the audience he set up to watch you fail..
