Every time ppl ask "how would we pay for it?" This kind of reasoning is basically the answer. It is not dark magic. every other big nation does it or tries to.

I have no kids and I want universal free childcare. I also want livable wages and progressive taxation so that fewer adults needed to work to make ends meet, but there are many single parent households.

It's infuriating that we are flushing all this money down the drain on policies that hurt us and our economy instead of helping.

An increase of availability for child care would allow parents to enter the work force and increasing employment, consequently helping the economy grow. Not to mention of parents are spending less on child care, it will free up cash for them to spend on other items. If we want the economy to grow the best way is to help the lower and middle class. By shear numbers when they can spend more it will push the economy faster, greater and farther than any recent supply side tax breaks. this way all classes will benefit.

Unfortunately the people in power don’t care about children.

I’m so proud to be from a state that IS trying to figure out universal childcare—it starts November 1st. I hope we are a good case study. 🤞

The $40 billion amount is equal to what we just gave to Argentina to prop up their currency. Why can’t we invest in our own people?

By the time my second child enters public school, I will have paid nearly $100,000 for childcare. My kids have gone to a good but average priced daycare. Subsidized or free childcare would’ve drastically changed my family’s life.

If i had access to free childcare, i would 10000% have a second child. If i had a second child, I would have to pay ~$3,600 a month for childcare or $43,200 a year. I don’t have that kind of money to spare 🙃

I appreciate this breakdown more than you can understand. In a government we want these things, and just cant even visualize how to get there. You show we can 🤩

As an educator, I can tell you it will absolutely be more than 76 billion. As someone with a masters degree in child development, I can tell you no matter how much more it costs, it will be worth EVERY PENNY. As a citizen and human being, I can tell you it would be worth a thousand times more than anything ICE would have done with the money.

This means the system sees no value in childcare. Priotising turning the US into a fortress is solely to please the wealthy. Citizens need only serve the purpose of being worker drones, cannon fodder or both.

Thank you for this! I already knew that ICE’s budget was massively overinflated, but it’s useful to put this absurdity into context of actually useful programs

I paid for childcare for my son and easily afford it. You could cut the cost pretty significantly by having some logical means test, which would be fine for me because this would have such a positive impact on families and the economy

Even if it wasn't enough money, it would take a huge burden off of the middle and working class. They would then be able to have more money to spend which also helps the economy.

Investing in the future of our country, while facing declining birth rates because of how ridiculously expensive raising a child sounds like a terrible idea.
