Money and happiness are studied in two ways: correlation and impact. Correlation just asks whether people with more money tend to be happier, and across many large studies the answer is yes, there is a positive relationship, though that alone doesn’t prove cause. The more important finding is that money helps happiness with diminishing returns: earning more greatly improves happiness when people are struggling, but once basic needs and financial security are met, extra income adds smaller and smaller gains. In short, money matters, especially at low income levels, but it doesn’t endlessly increase happiness.

Money buys happiness to SOME people. Happiness is feeling, and a feeling is temporary. If a poor person won 5mil, they’ll be happy. If a billionaire won 5mil they might not be as excited. If I just purchased my first car, im going to be happy. I’m never going to be home. But give it a few months and I just want to sit at home all day. Happiness is a temporary feeling. Money definitely buys security though.
