A lot of them fail to realize their countries receive USAID which is a form of hand outs from the American government.

This conversation is so layered and it’s always interesting talking with Black immigrants and the difference being a Black American. A lot of times they just don’t get it.

His was dead wrong and disrespectful. But there were other besides Marcus Garvey. Malcolm, Stoke Carmichael Elijah Mohammed, Louis Farrakhan, Cicely Tyson, Maya Angelo, James Weldon Johnson, W.E.B du Bois.

Shirley Chisholm, Stokey Carmichael Harry Belafonte, and Walter Rodney are 3 more Caribbean civil rights leaders. there are more still so he wasn't wrong about that. tbh Jamaicans are less reliant on welfare than Black Americans but it's more so because those systems don't really exist in Jamaica. definitely not to the extent that they do in the US. in my opinion traditional Southern Black Americans and Caribbean people have similar upbringings when it comes to manners and respect but Northern Black Americans don't. no shade.

I’m Jamaican 🙋🏾‍♀️however I reside in Canada. Jamaicans that come over say the same thing about us in Canada. So I’m not sure it’s “African American” stereotypes I think it’s a view on black people in first world countries opposed to third.

BA and AA are synonymous so there’s no such thing as 1st gen AAs. If you’re not AA or BA, your whatever country plus hyphen American. AA is for ppl who don’t know the specific country(-ies) they originated from

Should've told him Marcus Garvey left Jamaica and never returned even when deported for a reason.

The term Welfare Queen was weaponized during Ronald Reagan’s 1976 presidential campaign. Reagan has proven to have been quite harmful to the American public.

Garvey may not have been black born in America amerikkka, but he couldn't be who he became if he was still in Jamaica, the mind has to change not just the regime

I’m 2nd generation Jamaican. Many Jamaicans come to the US and initially live in poverty/low class areas so the blk ppl they experience tend to be lower class. Eventually they learn that their views of blk Americans are limited.

This has nothing to with gender. There are PLENTY of Black Immigrant women, Jamaican, West African etc. who have internalized anti-black sentiments. For you to generalize Black men like that is divisive and counterproductive.

The Caribbean is a place it is not a descriptor for ppl. Marcus Garvey was Jamaican/from the Caribbean. Also these talking points are a result of colonialism. It’s all designed to pit us against each out. I just don’t engage…

Well on the bright side for you, with the way Trump is going you won’t have to hear too much of this ignorant slander for very long. And I’m saying this as a child of Caribbean immigrants 🤦🏾‍♀
