I have would like to know you opinion if you think NZ should operate more with a marine force style of thinking as regionaly speaking we could see more of an island hoping with china and I think it would make sense to act as a marine focus with a LHD needed in the navy

I'd rather see the Kiwis specialise TBH. Consolidate frigates and patrol boats into 1 class of corvettes /OPVs and build the rest of the fleet with light amphibious and multi-role support ships with RAS capacity.

what are your thoughts on the battle of Kapyong in the Korean war ? its not well known in australia but the numbers were 10 to 1 Chinese against the Aussies Canadians and Kiwisvand the strategic importance? would Seoul have fallen again if the Chinese weren't held back? would Seoul be North Korean today?

What forces they have a handful of boats and run one aground they would compl early rely on Australia for defence and Australia completely would rely on America if America doesnt support Australia we couldn’t even help them look at our own reserves 28 days max n we be grounded n sitting in ports country starving so yep Australia New Zealand followed woke political doctrine to much but hey least if we bankrupt ourselves we will cut less then 1% of world emissions

Its that or the UK type 31 which is also part of the Western alliance system. Rather go with tha US/Japans sensitivities right now. So FFM.

I think in AoNZ, we mostly see ourselves as needing to be able to project naval power in the South Pacific. Policing fishing and smuggling as well as providing logistical relief support to Pacific Islands hit by climate change powered super storms. Sure the sea is important to us but our economic base is too small to buy top flight frigates that are almost destroyers. Fuck it - it is massive news that we have finally agreed to by replacement ferries to connect our two islands and the cost of those is a political drama. Frigates would be way more. But we do also want to continue to punch above our weight class and support our traditional western liberal democracy allies in the wider world (its a shame that USA no longer fits that description). But we can't afford the hardware to do that with serious fighting capability ships and planes. But we can afford to train pretty good special forces and we have people with the right warrior mindset to achieve that.

It would actually be their first choice as to stay within operability with Australia it’s why they have the ANZACS they will most definitely get the mogami if they want to be part of the program

NZ doesn’t need a navy ‘cos Australia will come and defend us if we ever got attacked. But we won’t ’cos we’re too far away and too boring for the rest of the world to give a toss

I know Babcock has been proposing the Arrowhead 140 design to New Zealand which is also a very credible and cost effective option.

Appreciate the answer. And I think youre spot on. There is definitely a major drop in support for alignment with the USA in particular which is driving sentiment behind the independent foreign policy position, but Aus, UK, Canada are still well liked and most would want to help them out in a conflict.
