You all know how much I hate insurance. But it is extremely unlikely that all dentists will band together and take a stand against the insurance companies. This is because so many dentists are associates, they are employees, so they don’t make decisions about what insurances they are contracted with. Private equity and corporate offices work to maximize profits, and they believe in offsetting low reimbursement with higher volume. This is how you get a hygienist who is expected to do 3 cleanings in an hour, or a DDS running 3-4 chairs at a time. This is also how quotas are formed, pushing dentists to treatment plan more expensive procedures for patients. This will decrease quality of care for patients.
