@bbcradio4: ‘I went to 43 funerals that year. That’s what life was like then’ Scottish performer Tilda Swinton joined Anita Rani in the Woman's Hour studio on Friday to talk about a new exhibition in Amsterdam about her life's work: Tilda Swinton - Ongoing. During their conversation, Tilda spoke about losing one of her close creative collaborators, filmmaker Derek Jarman, to HIV/Aids in 1994 and how she went to dozens of funerals that year. She then described how poignant today's news felt - that a 'game-changing' HIV protection jab has been approved in England and Wales, with the ambition of ending new HIV cases in the UK by 2030. 'That was what our life was like then,' Tilda Swinton said, 'I know there is a younger generation that has missed out on knowing enough about it'. I’m hoping the rumours of her staring in the new HP series isn’t true.

Now realize we're doing the exact same thing with Covid, it causes immune system dysfunction using a lot of the same mechanisms as HIV. Reminder that the acute infection of HIV didn't really harm ppl, it took ~10 yrs to grind down their immune systems. Now we're doing the same thing with Covid, while everyone pretends things are fine.

was an Extra on Edward II, watching this lady work, being totally absorbed when speaking with Derek. He was a strong and commanding man, even when ill.

I became callous to the number of deaths I experienced in the 80s and 90s. To this day death is almost a non-emotional experience for me.

hm I was in that room at SXSW when she scoffed at the idea of people still wearing masks on set. I'm starting to wonder how authentic she is. I always thought the most of her but idk now.

Considering that she played Orlando, a man who becomes a women, I HIGHLY doubt she would support anything associated with Rowling.
