@melrobbins: Can't fall asleep? Mind won't shut off? You NEED to hear this. Your brain hates all those undone tasks, texts, and to-dos. (science calls them “open loops”). That’s why you lie in bed thinking, ruminating, and planning. So if your mind won’t stop spinning, try this: Write down what you didn’t do. Your brain will finally let it go. In this episode of The Mel Robbins Podcast, I’m breaking down overwhelm and the 4 simple steps you can use today to reset your mind and finally get back on track. This episode drops Monday, October 20th 🎧 “If You’re Feeling Overwhelmed, You Need to Hear This.” #melrobbins #melrobbinspodcast #overwhelm #sleeptips #sleephabits

They fell asleep faster because they were depressed by the list and all they could do to escape is sleep.

Cause it clears your brain- you can relax and look at the list later…

Because you dumped the worry to tomorrow. I email myself before I go to bed!

I do this all the time. It allows me to document it so that I don’t have to live in a loop in case I forget.

Yeah I do it when I feel overwhelmed and when I write it down I don’t have to stress about remembering it and feel better

Is it better to use a pen and paper or is typing on a phone just as effective?

Makes sense cause that’s what rolls through my brain is the things I need or want to do! I’m doing this cause I can’t sleep.

Wait I wasn’t expecting this. I would’ve thought the positive list people would’ve slept faster. I stand corrected.

This makes sense. Writing down what you need to do takes the load away from the mental list you were carrying. Now you know you've written it down and won't lose it, you no longer have to worry. This helps me a lot. Highly recommend pen and paper.

I sleep better when I make a list of everything I have to do just simply because if I don’t make the list, it runs through my head all night and I’m afraid I’m gonna forget some of the things that I need to get done. So a list right before bed makes me sleep better

I’ve been doing this for years and my notes app on my phone, but guess what… I don’t fall asleep faster and I don’t get more things done. The notes just get buried upon more notes.

I’ve been doing this for years. Once it’s in the list I don’t have to worry about it anymore. It’s right there.

I didn’t know there was a study on this. My experience confirms that whenever I put pen to paper empting my mind from unfinished tasks, I fall asleep like a baby.
