I must say though- how are parents actually paying all this money for college? We saved a bit over $50k for her in a 529 but I se parents saying they are paying annually- like in real time. It just incomprehensible to me how parents would have this ‘extra’ money available to pay for college.

my dad paid what he could and helped me pay off my loans after school. i’m paying for my daughters 100% currently. starting life in debt is not an experience I want to provide my child.

My parents said we're not paying for college, you figure it out. So I joined the Army and Uncle Sam paid for it.

I saved $200k for him. He went to school for one year for about $40k and decided it wasn’t for him. I then used it as a down payment on a vacation home. 😅

My father took on tens of thousands of debt for me to go to school.( I had loans too but not as much as he did for me) He also sent me $250 a month for spending money. This was 2011-2015.

We paid for everything. 100% private tuition. Too much money. The system is broken, but we’d do it again to give our kids the best possible start to their adult life.

Paying for both our kids as we want to give them a debt free start into their adult lives. Oldest just graduated college and we covered tuition/room board his first year and then he paid his rent for his 2nd-last year. Youngest is paying her sorority dues and will pay a little towards rent next year.

I pay for everything except their spending money. They both have part time jobs that more than cover this. We were lucky as my FIL left us enough to cover this when he passed 2 yrs ago.

University of Delaware. Paid $225,000 for my daughter. Started a 529 plan at birth and it covered 3 years of it. 4th year is painful 😣
