Guys imagine trying to find a firefly in a bright room. That’s kind of what it’s like finding a bleed with a contrast CT. Contrast is bright, so if you want to find a bleed (which also shows up bright) you order a CT without contrast (firefly in a dark room).

Hey doc, love the videos thanks for making them! I wanted to ask, why do we start with CT no contrast for stroke alerts instead of CTA? Is it just because CT non cont is more broad and non specific and CTA is too specific of imaging to start the work up with? Thanks!

In Malta (European country) we do a CT stroke as the 1st line investigation which includes - non-contrast CT, CT angio, perfusion studies (to assess for the ischaemic penumbra)
