1st rule of being a mechanic is to always crank down an oil filter with a strap wrench. 2nd rule is when you're reinstall the timing chain make sure the colored links are not facing where you can see them and dont align them correctly... because F the next guy.

If you want to work 60 plus hours a week go for it. After 20 plus years wrenching I went to running a warehouse making more money 40 hours a week. Get to be home with family and work on cars on the side. All that money goes in my pocket not the shop. Why do you have to provide tools and get a small percentage of the work with all that knowledge. Working at a shop is a scam unless you own the shop.

Yes sir i agree I have no highschool diploma I have little to know GM training and no ASEs but yet im a lead tech in my shop started off as a lube tech had a very good mentor and I excelled fast

Education really only becomes important if you do a lot of diag and even then you can learn with experience, it’ll just be more painful. Hurts less knowing your getting payed instead of paying but still stings

I will say community great option. Typically a pell grant covers it completely. Also you learn theory on diag and electrical. Something majority of techs these days young and old can barely do.

10+ year tech. Did dual enrollment during high school at the local tech school. Then I went to Wyotech. Then started at a dealer. Every thing this guy is saying is true.

Did 1 year as a lube tech at one shop and went to another shop as a b tech and make double I used to make as a lube tech

I had a woman ask me if I was ASE certified 😅😂🤣. She was asking about plugs on her IS250. I laughed and said heck no. Then I showed her vids of me working on a Porsche and Tesla. I think I can do the plugs on your IS250 since I do the 2GR-FE plugs all the time.

yeap ! UTI man what a waste of time, I found out in 2005 ! whe I was working a Sears. They where hiring these dudes straight of these schools. The funny part I was the one traning them as lube techs.

This is true. I never went to school. I started working on my own vehicle in my driveway. Meet a guy through a friend who ran a shop. He was impressed and took me on. I worked 2 jobs until I knew if this what I was interested in. 30 years later here we are. Make great money now.

I’m 19 I tried joining the automotive industry out of high school, I did automotive in high school and learned as much as I can. I tried joining the industry struggle to find a job and once I found one they laid me off after a week because they wanted someone with more “experience”, but a week before being told I was doing good and they knew I was entry level prior to hiring me. I was basically a lube tech, the service manger told me he wanted me to get good at the small stuff. I was working with someone and I was working hard, learning, and I didn’t even care how much I was making, to me any money was good money for now. I like to think they laid me off because work was slow and they didn’t want to pay me. My dad and I spent over 400 dollars on tools just for those dbags to let me go after a week. And I wasn’t no clueless lube tech I actually knew the basics.I just don’t get how the industry works at this point. If you can, can you please give some of your opinion because actually keep it real. I did everything in this video and it still didn’t pay off.

Have seen lube techs for years buying all kinds of expensive tools thinking they will stay in the trade. A year later, full of debt and quit cause it's not for them.
