I’m testing and ranking shrimp, crab, sand fleas, clams, mullet, and ghost shrimp based on: Versatility – how many different fish will eat it Ease of Use – how simple it is to bait up and fish with Availability – how easy it is to find (bait shop or on the beach) Durability – how long it lasts on the hook In part 1 we’re wondering… are sand fleas… overrated? Sand fleas as bait are great but gave them a C+ rating. While they do work and can attract fish, they’re not the most consistent or always available. Sometimes you’ll get bites, other times… nothing. They’re decent in the right conditions but definitely not a top-tier bait on our list. What would you rate this bait? You can find sand fleas on just about every beach if you know where to look

I think a big bonus of sandfleas is you’re also less likely to catch trash fish like catfish and sharks so you can keep it out longer and really just target the pomp’s whiting and drum without having to deal with a cat every 5 minutes like you would with shrimp.

Available all over the beach during warmer months I’m sure these creatures don’t travel very far so they probably still on the beaches just down in sand like a crab in winter
