@beyondflorida: It's 1865 and the President of the Confederacy, Jefferson Davis, is on the run heading due south - he hopes to get to the Caribbean islands. But he only gets as far as Georgia. As he's captured by Union troops, he orders four soldiers to leave Irwinville with treasure chests full of gold, silver, and currency. Hey folks, not all of October's Florida mysteries have to be spooky and grizzly. How about this fascinating and fun tale of the lost Confederate Hoarde...and where it might be located. Right here in Florida. #confederacy #civilwarhistory
Fun fact route 1 that runs parallel with I95 was called the Jefferson Davis Highway but they changed the name. I was born and raised in Fredericksburg Va. Now I live 10 minutes from Archer,Fl.

It was gone long before then. It vanished before it reached Greensboro NC. It's likely buried in Lee Cemetery in Danville, VA.

Oh, and the treasury was mostly Spanish silver. Not gold. Though a small chest is jewelry was there with some gold. Gifted by women of the South.

Pretty sure, as destitute as the Confederacy was towards the end, that any gold they’d have had would have been spent long before then. I think even Davis himself had a sarcastic remark about the idea of the Confederacy having any gold left by that point.

Another famous treasure story from Archer, Fl is in the Netflix doc “Cocaine Island” 😏 I remember the kid told me that story long before he got his friend’s dad to commit to it.
