I used to teach sight words this way too until I became a certified dyslexia tutor. This method of teaching sight words follows balanced literacy, which is an older way of teaching reading and has been proven ineffective for struggling readers. Some students will do fine with this method, but 1 in 5 will really struggle. Please look into the podcast called “Sold a Story.”
