it's not done by the pilots, only by the maintenance crew, pilots don't even know where the points are to take the samples

I work at the Airport in SA,it is not true.The Pilot does not conduct this test.The fueller does however test the fuel at the fuel Depot

This has nothing to do with jet fuel. You check before every flight (and after refueling) on small planes too. As a pilot, it was one of he most important things I did during my walkatounds.
