I think what nobody talks about is that you're having a human being, a person, who comes fully loaded with their own personality. All the advice is about this amorphous baby and what the baby "should" be doing. But I didn't have an amorphous baby, I had my son who was born wide awake and curious and absolutely adverse to sleep. Things got so much better when I started parenting my specific son and stopped trying to make him fit what the generic baby should be doing.
