Just use a piece of masking or painters tape on the back of your picture or shelf to hang, mark the drill holes, attach to wall and place a much more secure hanging screw, nails suck

I learned a trick. Put a piece of tape across the back. Mark the hangers. Then place the tape on the wall.

Take a piece of blue painters, tape, put it on the back of whatever you’re trying to hang. Mark on the tape with a marker where the screws would go. Take the tape off the object, and place it on the wall where you would like to hang the item. Then make your holes on top of the marks on the blue tape. Then hang up your item. You can pull the tape off first. That way you don’t have this thing laying around in a drawer in your house somewhere. All you need is a small piece of tape.
