I wouldn't do it, only because the part about Jax not wanting to be touched when he's resting. If you can't safely leave them alone together I think it's a bad idea.

ER vet tech here and I would say that there are some things to really consider which you already hit on in your video but: if Jax is already that reactive and you have worked so hard to train him, the puppy could undo a lot of what you have come so far to do. you would want to keep them separated anytime you are not home because of Jax's history and I have seen so many house mate dog fights in my 8 years of ER vet teching. it also makes it so you have double the medical bills if anything happens. the bladder shouldn't be an issue in the chichi though as they should be able to hold it once they are potty trained. I guess lastly are you doing it for you or for Jax? because you may want another dog but Jax may not.

I have a chihuahua and he was house broken no problem! He hesitates to go out on the winter but, he goes out in two seconds and comes right back 😊

from personal experience owning and working with reactive dogs I'd have to say don't do it 🥺 it definitely can work out with a LOT of work but the risk of it not working and an accident or undoing any of his progress wouldn't be worth it in my opinion but at the end of the day you guys know yourselves and him best 🫰🏼

Maybe ask the shelter if you can bring the puppy home to see how Jax will be with him then go from there?

you’re going to figure it out. the only part that gives me pause is the back yard breeder. you could definitely explore fostering a puppy from a rescue and save 2 lives and give jax more time to adjust and see if it could work

I have a bully he’s moody & a female chihuahua. He is the same as Jax & we lead with caution & it’s worked out great for almost a year. We made clear boundaries for a while we and prioritized both in separate ways. Now if she bugs him sleeping he growls and she leaves him. ❤

I personally would say dont do it. It's very risky. Dogs are still wild animals and they have breaking points. I dont want anything to go wrong for either Jax or the new puppy. Maybe get another dog once Jack's no longer here and you've of course somewhat healed from that loss. Unfortunately getting animals we sometimes need to make sacrifices and I think this a sacrifice you guys should make for Jax.
