A non toxic adhesive was used to rhinestone this bikini, and only one stone was lost. (That one was intentionally applied using a different method to test durability. 😅) This bikini went on a holiday to Mexico and got plenty of use. It was worn in the pool, in the ocean, in the sun, in the sand, and on more than a few lounge chairs. When I got home, I machine washed it. Here’s what worked for me. The method: ✨ Stretch and pin the fabric before applying rhinestones so the adhesive dries with the fabric at full stretch. ✨ Leave enough space between rhinestones that they aren’t touching or putting pressure on each other. Crowded stones can pop off over time on stretchy fabrics. ✨ Use enough adhesive to fully cover the back of the rhinestone right to the edges. I like to think of it like trying to hold something with your entire hand versus balancing it on your palm. More contact equals a better grip. ⭐️The only rhinestone lost was the one that was applied with a small dot of adhesive that did not reach the edges of the stone. 💖 This bikini truly went through a test, and I was incredibly happy with how it held up. ✨One final note: I don’t recommend prolonged saltwater exposure for any rhinestones. Saltwater can gradually contribute to wear over time and may affect the longevity of both the adhesive and the stones. As with any rhinestoned project, every fabric, application method, washing routine, and level of wear can produce different results. That said, this method held up beautifully through heavy use and exceeded my expectations.
