@nettlesandpetals: Grow your own Oak Tree 🌳 from a tiny Acorn Imagine planting something in your garden today that could stand for hundreds of years, feed generations of wildlife, and shape an entire landscape. That’s the power of planting an oak tree from a single acorn. 🌳😊
This year is a mast year, when oaks and other trees produce a bumper crop. This is thought to ensure they have the opportunity to reproduce, as they produce more than can be eaten by wildlife. It doesn’t happen every year, but when it does, it’s nature’s invitation to gather, plant, and give these seeds a chance to grow. 🌱 All you need to do is collect fresh acorns, pop them in water, if they sink they are healthy and ready to go, then just plant them pointy side down in a pot of soil with good drainage, and leave outside to let winter’s chill trigger their germination. 🪴😊👍 Once shoots appear, move the seedling into a larger pot, leave them to establish a good root system and then find a spot for it to grow to maturity. 🌳 So will you be growing your own oak tree this mast year? 😊 #gardeningtips #gardenproject #foraging #trees #growyourown

Squirrels plant them all over my garden. They grow among my veg, shrubs, roses, etc. incredibly difficult to weed out. The main oak tree I trod into the grass forty years ago

Oaks are very slow growing and grow absolutely huge. Better to plant medium to small trees in your garden, just remember how much it takes to get the thing cut down if you change your mind….😏

very important I found is to thoroughly soak the soil after planting seedlings as the weather didn't provide enough moisture and leaves dried out

I've already got a 100yo one in my tiny back garden 😬 The best I can do is dig up the babies in the spring & do a little 'guerilla gardening' round the area & hope they make it 👍🏼😏😈

Okey so I planted one three years ago, it has grown about 30cm long with two sprouts, but now almost totally stopped growing and started to whiten/brown in the leafs, any tips? What should I do?😮💨
