@dannyrakow: a lot has changed … but in many ways nothing has changed. it’s still extremely hard to achieve a sustainable career in the music industry and compete at the highest level. even with the boom in artist visability via social media. it’s still very hard to do. and i don’t mean to come off as if i’m speaking from a perespective of someone who is achieving at that highest level. i hope to get there one day. but i’m constantly seeing artists complaining about promotion etc on tik tok. and my consistent thought is… this isn’t supposed to be easy! #musicindustry #musicbusiness #fyp #industryplant
You have to be an influencer, work your day job, and have to time make music😅 wish there were more hours in a day

I agree with everything but when you said the top tier artist are True Talent, Most of them can't sing as good as an average karaoke singer.. Its mostly about who you know and how much $$ you are willing to spend.. when I say top tier I'm referring to the mainstream artist maybe you mean something else..

I’m a little “washed up” lol but I was pursuing a career in music when I was in my late teens-mid 20s (2008-2015ish), before “viral” was a thing. What I’m noticing w the newer gen of artists is that they place so much weight on going viral/follower count (which yes, is kind of imperative now), but they are not going out & playing loads of shows to build a live, local fanbase. And because they’re not playing tons of shows, once they get to the point where they’re noticed by “higher ups,” they’re not engaging live bc they’ve only been playing behind a screen. Honestly, if you can build a fanbase by playing live while also growing your social enhancement, I feel like that’s part of the secret sauce

I've seen some incredibly talented singers on Tiktok with almost no notoriety.

consumers are fickle and labels are impatient. many artists in the old days had labels that were willing g to grow with them. those days are over.

Not hate, but meanwhile you’re charging $25 and up just for a skip so an artist can be heard for a minute on your platform. I get that everyone needs to make money, but it’s crazy how much gets made off musicians just for them to get listened to. The system shouldn’t make artists pay just to have a chance at exposure.

Anyone can make music it’s so accessible these days but almost all “visible” successful artists have financial backers / nepo / rich parents

What’s nice about social media is you get to hear artists as artists. Vrs. the same polished and regurgitated sound of that particular moment in time by labels and producers.
