@olivia_rubin: Share this with somebody who needs to hear this✨ Fresh mindset. If it were easy everybody would do it. Downsizing your business does not mean downsizing your ambition. I still work just as hard, but I use my time more wisely. I doubt my ideas less and give them a go. I slowed down and use pre order. Producing 6 collections a year was sucking all the joy out of creating. I now design and produce what I want, when I want, with minimal waste and more peace of mind. I reduced my team to 3. With a big team comes more managing, when all I wanted was to focus on creating. The 3 of us all have the freedom to work as we want, but also help each other out, when needed. Resting is not a weakness. I still often feel guilty for taking time to myself, but have learnt that having time out is a way for me to recharge and come back more inspired. I sell only direct to customer. This allows me to connect with customers and be transparent with them on delays, feedback and most importantly hearing about their special moments. I stopped gifting. Each piece is so important to me and giving it away felt slightly heartbreaking when a lot of it was unworn, or worn only once. I limited my social media time. Comparison is the thief of creativity and I felt stuck in a daily doom scrolling habit. Now I just make content I enjoy sharing. I’ve stopped saying yes to everything. I feel so lucky that I have lots of opportunities come my way, but I don’t want to spread myself too thinly and want to put 100% into everything I do. Saying no isn’t a bad thing when you’re protecting your energy. Working my own hours. Having children and a business makes it a constant struggle. I now work around my children and if that means some days I work at nighttime, that’s ok. My team understand my life as a mum and my need for flexibility. Redefining ‘success’. Success means different things to different people and I’m ok with that. Being smaller, works for my personal happiness, as well as the more responsible brand I want to be creating in an industry dominated by newness and the next ‘big thing’.
