but where do we stand as adults who are not in a position to claim benefits however are also not rolling in riches? they have to make decisions to limit the amount of children they have so that they can provide comfortably for their children without state funding and not have another even if they'd like because they need mum to work to have enough to support their kids? genuinely curious on your views as it seems we focus hugely on those on benefits, not those who are paying into the system yet unable to get anything out of it and are the most affected

If the benefits were capped at 3 children, she would have said “if you choose to have more than 3 kids…” and if you could only get child support for one kid, she’d be a firm believer that poorer families are allowed one child only.

completely agree with you. another counter point I've heard (and absolutely do NOT agree with btw) is that the incentive isn't the £67.50 a week UC it's the delay in having to find paid employment. so much more misogyny here - women out of the work force due to child rearing is not valued in anyway by society.

What would your thoughts be on giving parents items for children rather than money? They could get vouchers for food, books and kids clothing to ensure the taxpayers funds are actually helping the kids rather than funding the parents smoking habits.

I believe that the statistics show as well it is actually more expensive overall for the state to pay for the effects of these children growing up in poverty than it would be to pay benefits without the 2 child limit.
So even if you look at it solely on what costs more it's still not a good policy.

If we can fund lavish meals with gold seats and silver platters, we can afford benefits for the poor, for the disabled, for children etc.

people would get paid more to be foster carers, so using their logic there would be a waiting list to be a foster carer - the opposite is true
