my parents paid $50 for 75$ food stamps in the late 60s for 7 kids, mom had cancer and dad working his tail off, they could barely afford it. Mom got groceries and had a gallon vinegar for pickle making and the store clerk embarrassed her so bad she threw them away. 🙁

Interesting! When I was a kid my family utilized SNAP/ebt for a period after the 08 crisis. Literally lifesaving program and deserves protection.

I will always support my tax dollars going towards feeding my countrymen. My only wish is that MORE, (significantly more,) of my taxes went directly towards basic needs, medical care, housing, etc.. And less went towards bombing and interfering in the affairs of other countries.

When my grandma passed we went through her stuff from when we moved we found so many food stamps from when she was a kid in the 30s

I remember as a young kid I thought S&H Green Stamps were food stamps. I mean, supermarket and stamp!

I live in New York city, back in the day people would hang out on the street corners and sell food stamps for 25 cents on the dollar

Thank you! I work at a SNAP office and “Food stamps” is so commonly used in speech still! Sometimes just “stamps” too. Younger people simply call it “EBT” but that just refers to any benefit on an EBT card and can also refer to cash benefits.

Then they wanted to keep people in poverty. So, they decided if they give people little money. They will stay in broke. Stay in a job that they won’t take a promotion because they loose benefits. Never moving up in life, it’s a form of discrimination against we the people.
