In South Africa we use wild garlic in our gardens for the flowers and scaring off pests with it’s smell. Never knew it’s edible!

Some people may call ramps wild garlic, but wild garlic is actually a different plant, Allium Canadense.

Wild garlic is called Bärlauch in German („bear leek“) and it grows everywhere in Switzerland. As a kid my parents would take me foraging for it in the woods. We‘d eat it for weeks as fresh pesto, in salads etc.

My whole garden gets COVERED in the stuff every spring. When you mow the ‘lawn’ it smells like garlic bread at least 5 houses away 🤣 my son and his cousins snack on it while they play outside too
