I’m gonna go ahead and disagree with this one. Just spent two weeks in Japan and we wished we’d skipped Kanazawa and gone straight to Takayama. Sure, Kanazawa has interesting areas but they are not within walking distance of each other unlike Kyoto, are small, and almost every restaurant required reservations. In Kyoto, we were able to wander around and find loads of dinner options without reservations. Also, Omicho market is much smaller than you think.

in my opinion, if it's your first time in Japan, just do the Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka route. you're a tourist, be a tourist, it's okay. yes it can be crowded but it's worth it. you'll want to go visit the country again and you can do different regions/cities then

Crowded, yes, BUT it's beautiful to see everything in Japan and also you'll want to come back to see more & to see what you may have missed the first time ❤️I'm in Japan rn with my wife and we love it here. We have done soo much already.

I went to Kanazawa this year and I am totally in love with it. But I still miss Kyoto and trying to figure out how to enjoy it again in the future with less crowds.

my first trip in 2023 involved the big 3 (as most first timers would do) plus Hakone and Kawaguchiko. Learned from it and now travelling in April going to Kanazawa and Takayama! 🙌🙌
