I’m kind of sad. I just started reading Shadow of The Gods and I’m enjoying the story and the world. But… I’m having an issue with J.G’s writing style. I just finished a chapter with it going into every single detail of the town and every single detail of the jarl and what he looked like and what he was wearing and then every single detail of his guards. The amount of detail J.G goes into is taking me out and having me space out more times then I’d like to admit.

As an Icelander it was fun to discover that the magical language is Icelandic and most of the characters have Icelandic names. Orka (the word for energy in Icelandic) is such a fantastic character and reminds of a blend of a berserker from the norse myths and a shield maiden from the Icelandic sagas. Great review and I wholeheartedly agree.
