i know exactly how you feel. I went to the local advanced auto and was trying to get 3 feet of 1/2 inch heater hose. the guy was out back forever. then another guy asked what I needed. he went and got it for me and sead the first guy was trying to cut 1/2 inch hydraulic hose with the cutters for heater hose and fuel line.

Been in the parts business for more than 3 decades. Started at a small town NAPA. Looked up anything and everything from a late model corvette to a 30 year old Allis Chalmers tractor. Todays parts people just don't have the right people teaching them.
