@ellinasfam: Can someone please explain this intresting approach to abandoning the shopping cart at random spots in the parking lot rather than retit back? Its something I never seen anywhere else. Its not the absence of collection points for the carts because they are pretty much everywhere. I also noticed that it doesn’t seem to bother the employees who go around collecting them 🤷♀️ #cultureshock #usa #america #lifeintheusa #california
There’s 2 types of people- ones that put them away and ones that leave them.

Sometimes it’s an accessibility issue, esp for people with chronic pain or are elderly. Shopping is necessary but takes a lot out of you. Our healthcare in the US is expensive and terrible

its a litmus test in the US for what kind of person you are. not everyone puts them away and not everyone leaves them out, but we know what kind of people are those who leave them out.

I hate it. I judge people who don’t return their carts.

Aldi has a solution to this - it costs a quarter to get a cart, and to get your quarter back you have to return the cart and reattach them together

Because late stage capitalism and individualism breed a culture of ownership and entitlement vs. stewardship and community.

That’s why in Europe you need a coin to get the cart

Such a real culture shock moment. Did you end up returning yours or leave it too?

it sounds pretentious to say but we Americans are obsessed with the idea of consumerism. This contributes to the idea that nobody should do anything unless they are receiving financial compensation. in this case, the customers are not paid to put the carts back themselves, since there are workers who are hired to do that exact task. in reality, it takes about 30 seconds to put a cart back. I personally don't really understand why that's so difficult for some people to do

If it’s dark out sometimes I don’t return it because the collection point is usually farther away and the parking lot is dark
