@pinknews: Tilda Swinton has reflected on the devastating toll of the AIDS crisis, revealing she attended 43 funerals in 1994 – including that of her close friend and collaborator, filmmaker Derek Jarman. Speaking on BBC Woman’s Hour, she said: “I went to 43 funerals that year, and one of them was Derek’s in the February. But that’s what our life was like then, and it bears repeating because I know that there’s a younger generation that has somehow missed out on knowing enough about it.” Swinton’s very first film role was in Jarman’s ‘Caravaggio’ (1986) and she went on to work with him on seven more films. #TildaSwinton #DerekJarman #AIDS #aidscrisis #lgbtqia
One would pass and the next day I would get a call from another friend in the hospital with pneumonia. Another called with skin cancer. Few made it past a year while sick. Reagan refused to acknowledge the disease. I participated in AIDS Quilt squares…….one after another.

It’s unfortunate that younger generations have forgotten how cruel was it to be different. AIDS, the stigma, the social marginalization. 💔

I knew 10 people including a dear friend and his partner - fauci is still roaming free as he will until his judgment day. Those people think there’s nothing after death…he is in for a rude awaking

I’m 19, so I wasn’t around for the aids crisis. But with how bleak things seem right now, I try to remember that there are men before me who survived in a time that was arguably worse than right now. And it feels like an obligation to the men who died to keep living. When they had their lives forcefully taken away from them, what right do I have to give mine up out of fear?
