Can we also acknowledge the fact that even before the murder, she never did any journalism once on board? Didn't really talk to anyone, didn't really do any interviews with characters, didn't find out what the angle of her story will be. Nothing at all.

Netflix's push for everything they produce to be "second screen" media has killed writing. You know why that's what she says? It's so that people who aren't looking at the screen and are just listening while they're doing something else can still get the message of "both her and the child are ok" without relying exclusively on the visual of the child playing to give that information, because if they just rely on visual context, then "second screen" watchers won't understand as well. It absolutely sucks, and is a huge part of the reason so much media is lacking subtlety these days
