It’s called lip reading. Also she maybe able to hear some but she can’t make out the announcements for her flights over all the other airport noise.

My friends deaf uncle was told to wait at the gate and someone would arrive to assist him on board. Someone approached him "are you Mr ***? We've been shouting you over the tannoy to come to the gate..." 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Some of these comments are wild. She has hearing aids in and is clearly heavily lip reading. there are different levels of deafness measured. Mild, Moderate and Severe.

“sHe’S nOt DeAf” like what the… there are different way of hearings, I’m completely deaf since birth with cochlear implant to help me to hear. I may can hear very well with it, but I don’t always pick up on things, speakers can be tricky for us, I do struggle 50% of the times with the speakers. Do your research before you say, or don’t say anything if you’re absolutely clueless. I’m just glad to see the person serving this lady with kindness and respect💚

I'm hearing impaired and wear hearing aids too but airports are so noisy I often can't hear clearly... I didn't think I could ask them to do this.

On my last flight, the woman next to me was deaf, and there was an announcement onboard about a small weather delay, so I typed out what the captain was saying to let her know. Easy to help out 🥰

Airports need more inclusivity! I’m hoping auracast transmissions are installed in airports so auracast hearing aids can receive these important gate announcements.
