everyone commenting saying “okay better than being homeless” no. its literally not. there are rats, roaches, all kinds of pests. no elevators, even for disabled or elderly. disease/illness spread like wildfire. addiction and crime runs rampant in these impoverished areas. the temp is absolutely sweltering in those buildings. you share tiny, barely working and hardly maintained bathrooms and kitchens with ten (im being generous) or more people you probably dont even know. theres almost zero privacy, and you dont know if the person next to you or above you will do something to you. the conditions in these places are literally worse than most prisons in the usa. you do NOT want to defend this. this is unregulated capitalism at its finest in the most expensive city in the WORLD. if the wealth gap keeps growing in the usa, we may also find ourselves paying $250-300 for a bed in worse conditions than underfunded homeless shelters and prisons pretty soon. yall need to be so for real, imagine what these people dealt with during COVID isolation. we should not be praising this in any way.
