@packleaderdogs: Leash pulling is one of the most common things dog owners deal with but believe it or not, dogs who refuse to walk is also something many of dog owners deal with. Motivation is always ideal if possible but some dogs will resist will deny all forms of motivation. In that scenario, using a slip lead and understanding how to increase and reduce leash pressure to get the dog moving is a great option. I always remind people to assess and evaluate whether or not you are behaving as a leader throughout your dogs life. Behaving as a leader overall in your dogs life will make it more probable for them to listen to your guidance instead of resist it in scenarios like these. Could also ask whether or not the dog is in pain. Maybe doesn’t wanna walk because it hurts. Also, flat collar is never the problem, leash pressure is never the solution. We should always work with them not against them.

Every golden retriever owners knows this pain. lol. Btw, she can hike 10 miles off leash no problem. But she loves food and easily motivated

We have this problem with our 70 pound rescue pittie. We can’t use a slip lead though. Long story. The only thing that’s been working is a pup cup when he gets home. As soon as we walk through the door he gets a small swirl of whipped cream every time. Even after rides in the car. It’s the only time he ever gets this. We did short walks at first and immediately rewarded as soon as we walked through the door. But he’s extremely food motivated so that’s why it works I think. He’s also very smart. I didn’t think he could associate walk+coming home=pup cup but he did. 🤷♀️love your acct btw

Took my rescue a few weeks to not stop a few times on our early walks. A year latter stopped in her tracks. Gave a correction and she started walking again. 50 yards later crested over a hill and saw 30 vultures circling something dead up ahead. She must have smelled it before I did and wasn’t keen on the direction I was going in.

😂 OH my. My 4 month old keeshond does that. Treats work and he figured out that if he lies down than he gets a treat. Training with a trainer starts after his last shots, which is next week 😊

my dog does this sometimes when she wouldn't want to walk, I just stop and wait. she gets up, we walk again, if she lays on the ground I will wait. Over time she would understand that it didn't matter how much she stopped, we would keep walking, she was being stubborn but learned quickly that I would not allow for that behaviour. Now she may do this once but that's it. She knows she can't get out of a walk. She needs the exercise as much as she would like to avoid it. Once her initial reluctance is over she loves it and gets excited to walk

I worked at a pet hotel we had two bull mastiffs that were so big. Their nexks would not allow for slip leads. Literally they would just stop at the slip leads would come right off. It was a good thing. They were so fat though because they didn’t really run away, they just kind of waddled.
