When it comes to other straight white leftists posturing on identities, I really agree. Only caveat that I’d add here is that queer people, Black citizens, and others from minority groups do have reasons to be cautious about white men due to being burned a lot. We can have people show up to movements, feel like they’re finally getting things at a deeper level, but then have them water down and take over for their own goals in their competition with other cis white men. I think straight white men can be really unaware of the guys among them that are likely clinical narcissists who show up to any movement gaining attention and then try to wrangle it to their own goals. Cis white men have the most ability to take over spaces, and with the way the States makes us more individualistic, people can be on edge until we know someone actually gets the community side of this and will care about things that matter deeply to minorities even if it doesn’t make sense yet why minorities care so much. A lot have gone through a cycle of disappointment, so you might have to do some labor in gaining trust, which is a daily exercise for most minorities who have to cross groups to operate and survive in life.
