I’m sorry you’re going through this. Fwiw, my brother had osteosarcoma in his femur at 13 and they saved his leg. But after about 10 years of problems later decided to amputate and it was liberating for him.

Holy shit Jaz. First, I’m so glad you’re alive but I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Have you looked into any forums or etc for people who have experienced amputations and how they feel now/ how they were able to acclimate?

I wouldn't dare to think that I could or should give you advice on this(even though for some reason that's the default reaction)...I'm quite sure you don't care what I would do since we don't know each other at all. I'm moving to Tacoma from North Carolina as soon as the winter is over bc i have to drive&my people don't think it's a safe idea during winter(can't leave till December). your story coupled with my best friend driving off an overpass(she was totally fine as soon as she came out of the coma)&my 1st gf being thrown from a car while she&her brother were driving from CO to Atl in the snow(she was not okay at all&her brother will never be the same again bc he feels like he killed his sister even though it wasn't his fault) has made me rethink just going anyway despite the feelings of those closest to me. you never think something will happen to you until it does as you know all too well. I appreciate your sharing and truly hope that you can come to a place of peace with whatever you decide. maybe I'll pass you on the street in WA one day, neither of us will know it but ya know, still a trippy thought.

I know someone who has a fused ankle and he worked as a timber cruiser in the woods for decades after that. I’m not sure if he was in pain, but he didn’t appear to medicate or self medicate. You could tell he was a little crooked walking but not to a crazy extent. Sorry you’re having to go through this 💜 i read an interest article in the New Yorker about new strategies for amputation surgeries if you’re interested.

You’ve been through it but clearly you’re a fighter!! I can slightly relate, I have drop foot because my sciatic nerve was overstretched during a hip surgery I had 12 years ago. Constant pain, every day, and I’m always questioning whether or not I should have an ankle fusion or live the way I am now. Hugs 🫶🏼

My 13 yo son has double ankle fusions due to bilateral clubbed feet. I hope that whatever decision you make provides you the relief you need.

Seems like you might be more mobile if you amputate. I’ve seen Olympic runners and jumpers on prosthetics
