@80s_metal_heads: 🎸 GUITARIST OF THE WEEK: GARY MOORE 🎸 This week we celebrate Gary Moore, one of the most soulful and technically gifted guitarists. A guitarist who played hard rock, blues, and metal with ease. Born April 4, 1952, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Moore first gained attention in the late 1960s with Skid Row, a band that also featured Phil Lynott. That friendship would later connect him to Thin Lizzy, where he contributed to classic albums like Black Rose: A Rock Legend (1979). Gary’s solo career took off in the early ’80s with albums like Corridors of Power and Victims of the Future, blending screaming Les Paul tones with deeply emotional phrasing. Tracks like “Parisienne Walkways”, “Still Got the Blues”, and “Empty Rooms” remain some of the most expressive guitar performances ever recorded. In 1990, his album Still Got the Blues became a defining moment, a return to his blues roots, featuring legends like Albert King and Albert Collins. Across his career, Gary worked with artists like Greg Lake, Colosseum II, B.B. King, and of course Thin Lizzy. Whether shredding hard rock or playing blues, he never lost his touch or authenticity. Gary passed away in 2011.
