to clarify, this law has been erased. now, chinese (or any other ethnicities) are free to pick the name that reflect their culture. but the law already changed the chinese indonesian culture, so most indonesian chinese today don't use chinese name as their legal name by choice.

one piece of information missing from your video. what Indonesia did was a direct response to PRC that declared all Chinesse worldwide became China's citizenship automafically. Similar response by Thailand and Philipines. Indonesia forced Chinesse to choose the citizenship, as dual / foreign citizenship at that time has exposure to nation security.
