📍 Serra da Canastra is located in southwestern Minas Gerais, about 5–6 hours from Belo Horizonte by car. We stayed in São Roque de Minas, which I’d definitely recommend as a base for exploring the region. 🚗 You’ll definitely want a car here. A lot of the roads are dirt roads, and some places — like Cachoeira do Fundão — are much easier with a 4x4. 💧 My two favorite waterfalls: • Cachoeira Casca d’Anta → absolutely massive and one of the tallest waterfalls in Brazil. The water is colder and doesn’t get as much sun, but seeing it in person is insane. • Cachoeira do Fundão → much better for spending the day swimming and relaxing. More sun, calmer vibe, and one of my favorite spots of the trip. 🌿 If you don’t have a full day, Forró & Cachoeiras is also a great easier option nearby. 🧀 And honestly… one of the best parts of Serra da Canastra is the cheese culture. You can basically go cheese hopping through the region 😂 Everywhere you look there’s another small farm producing fresh Canastra cheese, doces, coffee, cachaça, and other local products. Some of my favorite spots: 🍰 @quintaldacanastraemporiocafe → don’t leave without trying the Canastra cheesecake. One of the best cakes I’ve ever had. 🧀 @rocadacidade → amazing sunset spot to sample local cheeses and products 🍽 @restaurantedoonesio → great lunch with an incredible view 🐄 @afazendaestrela → my favorite cheese of the trip If you love nature, waterfalls, road trips, and food, Serra da Canastra is seriously one of the coolest trips you can do in Brazil 🇧🇷 Follow for more from a gringo exploring Brazil 🇧🇷 #serradacanastra #minasgerais #canastracheese #braziltravel #visitbrasil
