Definitely try to look at toys like, what is my kid going to play with over the next year or until their birthday. It’s 100% okay to get toys for Christmas that your kid might not “yet” play with. They usually already have toys for their current age so you should look ahead and replace the ones he will outgrow next. I often ask for toys that I know will sit in the closet for a few months, but it’s SO nice to pull out at random then having to run to the store to buy when they had a good day or it’s raining outside & we are cooped up. Balance bike, Tonie box, definitely the magnatiles, drawing pads, maybe a nugget couch if you don’t have one yet. We love building forts with ours! My son started getting into monster trucks around that age. Also! Congratulations! ♥

I created a “busy box” for Loretta. It was special for her to get to open the tote and choose an activity/toy to play with while I was busy nursing/pumping for the baby.

nuggets, pickler triangle, magnatiles, rock steps, little people, wobble board, magnetic squares(you can get on Amazon). I think it depends on if your kid is a climber or a dweller. my oldest climbs on everything so she uses the nugget, step rocks and triangle way more. also look into a pool and sensory bags(beans, rice, small bowls, measuring cups,spoons, small acrylic toys to mix with rice or beans.) put it in a small pool and kids will play for a long time.

Critter Clinic!!! (I’m an SLP) all my kids LOOVEE this toy and play with it forever especially when I switch out the animals/items behind the doors :)

A module balance beam! We got one from target because our 2 year old son is VERY busy and he loves it. He will use it as a normal balance beam but also as a car track lol

Magnetiles, play doh. I think it’s Lil Tikes that has a red and blue slide that we use indoors. It’s not that big and it folds down. He gets a lot of use out of that! I build “obstacle courses” in our family room with stepping stones, a small tumbling mat, a tunnel that folds down super small (we keep it behind the couch), a balance beam. Pop up tent. Paw Patrol figures. My son LOVES Hot Wheels cars.

My son is kind of too little at 2.5 to build with magnatiles but he loves the magnatile roads and he drives his cars on them

Balance bike, trains, he’s big in imaginative play right now so like a dr kit, kitchen kit, “toy wash” (soapy water and brushes) paint, he loves making car runs or marble runs, shadow puppets! Hope this helps! I’m due in April with baby #2, my son will be 3 at the point!
