@lazygirlsgardenclub: So how do you know when your zinnias are ready for seed saving? 🌱 Here are a few lazy girl tests to try: • Petal Test → pull out a few petals from the bottom of your zinnia. • Seed Check → Look for seeds that are thick, dark, and not bendable (skinny, pale ones won’t sprout). They look like arrowheads! If they match this criteria they are ready for the next step! • Flower Fade → Brown, crunchy centers = seed jackpot. If the petals fall out easily when you tug & it looks “spent”, that bloom is saying “pick me! Save my seeds!”😉 The longer they are on the stem the better chance they have had to be pollinated! I use organza bags to earmark special ones that I did the petal test on that have thick dark seeds but need a bit more time to dry on the stem. This protects them from pests & birds and tells me not to cut them just yet. Tomorrow we will talk about drying them! 💌 Don’t forget to save this post so you can refer back later—and share it with a friend who needs to know this too! #zinnias #seedsaving #lazygirlsgardenclub
