To many people get relaxed this 100% should never happen ever from any licensed pilot, private or atp. Ridiculous and a hazard to aviation. Verify the runway before ever touching the ground. Maybe verify lights if that wasn’t obvious enough? Good lord people get it together

Could have been nighttime or lower visibility, but Tower could have did him a solid by telling him to go around or cue him on his lineup. However, being apologetic goes a long way and the controller did a great job on being calm in a unusual situation.
