I hear that a lot too.. but I have had one that absolutely hated the way I cleaned her teeth and went and told the OM that she never wanted to see me ever again., I cried and will never forget it..

I feel like offices don’t give enough time per appointment, I have been there where I was given less than 1 hour. We need to advocate for patients and leave offices that don’t give us 1 hour per patient

It’s impossible to stay on time while simultaneously cleaning 28-32 teeth (most of the time) after 3-6 months of bacteria buildup. No realistic. We all do the best we can. You’re not better than a hygienist who utilities the cavitron with light handscaling afterwards.

I hear this all the time too. My best guess is that Hygienists are often not given enough time to clean teeth. I know some hygienists only get 20-30min to do a full cleaning. I hear some get one hour for four quadrants of SRP! I believe in my fellow hygienists and I know we are doing everything we can with the time we get.

20 plus yr RDH, I was taught you do not let a patient go without putting a scaler to their teeth including kids. My patients love me and I have a high retention rate

Same!!!! People actually feel like their teeth are reallly dirty bc I am so thorough that I am cleaning every single surface of every single tooth, so they feel like there’s a lot of calculus!! I don’t want to put other hygienists down, but I am definitely doing what we should all be doing! The cavitron doesn’t get it all!

I get this a lot, but then I also get patients that say I hurt them and say I’m rough. In my opinion, patients are all over the place 😅

I do the absolute best with the time I have. I left my last job because they didn’t ALLOW enough time. And sorry, but after 32 years I’m not going to just push people out.

Yes I temp and I hear this all the time. That im very thorough. I cavitron or use piezo , handscale, polish and floss EVERY SINGLE TOOTH. I’ve even had some patients tell me no one has ever used a cavitron on them before !

Same!!!!! I didn’t want to call another hygienist out so never made a video about it. I spent the last 6 months cleaning up years of terrible hygienist work!!! It’s so frustrating! I had one lady say she knows I did a good job but was too aggressive so she doesn’t want to see me again

Took over a hyg who was there for 20+ yrs the amount of times i hear wow you were so thorough or hmm i never had that done before (probing) - been there for 5 months & about 80% of pts need srps or need to be on 3mrc! Or never explained why they need to come back every 3m after srp! She only focused on personal talk - it literally drains me having to pick up after her

Same. As a dentist I actually have patients that say woah that was a great cleaning experience and far more thorough the my previous hygienist. It goes to show you that it’s the provider that matters and not the “title.”
