It’s possible that the comment wasn’t directed at the deputy but to a manifestation she perceived either in front of or behind him or even felt within her, but the deputy took it as directed at him because he couldn’t see what she perceived.

I’ve seen people argue rebuke means strong disagreement or that it means she saw the devil in him. Which is it? If she saw evil while throwing boiling water 💦 that’s a problem. Many think she saw the 😈 as soon as she opened that door. This argument doesn’t help Sonya.
